Dr. Baker graduated from University of Florida School of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida in 1978. He continued his internship and residency at Emory University, School of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Baker is board certified by Medical Examiners, Internal Medicine, and Subspecialty, Cardiovascular Science. He is licensed in Nuclear Medicine.

In 2009 USA Today recognized Dr. Baker as one of the most influential doctors in the United States.
